Coimbatore : The Slum Clearance Board built over 1328 houses near the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant. In the six-storeyed building complex, two floors have reportedly come crashing down due to the low quality of construction.
Hence residents have filed a petition at the Collectorate for action against the Slum Clearance Board for providing them with low quality houses. The people have also stated in the petition that their surroundings were unclean due to the proximity of the Ukkadam sewage treatment plant and requested for a change of site for their houses.

"Everyday, over 100 lorries dump waste which make living conditions here very unhygienic. Officers do not initiate any action even after multiple complaints. Many outsiders are staying here for rent and on lease," petitioned the residents.
