Coimbatore: In spite of repeated concerns raised by the locals of Valparai with regard to increased elephant movement in tea estates, a 54-year old estate worker tragically lost his life when he was reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant at a private estate near Kurangumudi, in Valparai, on Sunday.
Coimbatore: In spite of repeated concerns raised by the locals of Valparai with regard to increased elephant movement in tea estates, a 54-year old estate worker tragically lost his life when he was reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant at a private estate near Kurangumudi, in Valparai, on Sunday.

According to sources, the victim Selvaraj was working as a night watchman at Siva Coffee Estate. He had left his house on Sunday evening to reach his workplace and had not returned on Monday morning. When relatives and co-workers searched for him, they found him lying dead on an estate road in Kurangumudi.

Initial investigations have revealed that he had been trampled by a wild elephant. His mortal remains have been sent to the hospital for autopsy.
