Coimbatore: The Kongu Global Forum met with the Nilgiris MP, A Raja and thanked him for voicing the concerns of the city in Parliament with regard to lack of adequate international flight connectivity from the Coimbatore airport.
At their meeting, they also requested him to join a meeting with the 7 Kongu District MPs to discuss about the necessities for Coimbatore Airport expansion work and other developments for the region.
Last week, after raising awareness in Parliament on Coimbatore being sidelined for international routes despite having all viability, A Raja followed it up by submitting a petition to the Aviation Minister in Delhi, for initiating direct flights from Coimbatore to international destinations like Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. He had stated in his petition that Coimbatore Airport is widely used by locals, affluent people, businessmen and tourists, especially from the neighbouring state of Kerala. The petition stated that with such an increasing number of potential passengers, a lot of time and money is wasted due to lack of direct flights from these destinations.
