The State Government, on Friday, effected a major shuffle in the Police Department by transferring 43 officers at the level of Superintendent of Police (SP). While some were transferred to other districts, a few were promoted. Shanmuga Priya who had been the Nilgiris SP was transferred to the Chennai Crime Branch. Subsequently, Kalaiselvan who was the Additional Commissioner in Chennai took over as the Superintendent of Police for Nilgiris.
Addressing the media, the newly-appointed Nilgiris SP stated, "Since Nilgiris District is a tourist place, security will be tightened at the District borders and there will be surveillance cameras right for 24 hours a day." Many high-ranking police officials participated in the event.
