The incident reminds of the Tamil Movie 'Sathuranga Vettai', in which the hero, a skilled conman plots ingenious scams and executes them perfectly by identifying gullible investors and luring them of high returns. In one such incident, Gopi from Kongaraipatti, Dharmapuri, Shahjahan from Senapet in Vaniyambadi, Dasaiyan from Mullai Nagar Vellore have duped several lakhs of money from people in and around Dharapuram promising them to triple their investment.
The three member gang have approached business people and showed tricks of dissolving plain black sheets of paper in water and trueing them into 2000 rupee notes. The fraudsters promised to change a one lakh investment into three lakhs within a short period of time. Lured by the irresistible offer, many people from in and around Dharapuram came forward to invest large sums.

As the gang did not turn up or return the investments within the promised time, the investors got suspicious and escalated the issue to Dharapuram District DMK Secretary, Senthil Kumar.
The DMK District Secretary plotted a sketch to trap the fraudsters and hence contacted the gang to express his interest in investing money in their tripling scheme.
He also alerted the police and helped them nab the gang. Upon investigation, the police learnt that the gang coated Rs. 2000 notes with some chemical and changed its colour as black. Later, they have tricked the customers by immersing them in water and changing them back to Rs. 2000 notes.
The Police confiscated the black powder chemical and other materials from them. The police are investigating the fraudsters on the tune of investments they have cheated.
