Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, five members of a family died and and seven others sustained injuries after their Omni Van collided head-on with a parked truck on national highway near Walayar on Saturday.
The family of twelve members from Karumbukadai here were enroute to Palakkad to visit a relative's new born. Mohammed Shahjahan from Karumbukkadai was driving the Omni. The van collided head-on with a truck which was parked along the highways in Walayar.
The driver and other members of the family Feroz Begum, children Aluva Shafiya, Sherin, Ryan died on the spot. The public rescued the remaining seven people from the collapsed van and sent them to government and private hospitals.
The Police retrieved the bodies of the deceased and sent them to Palakkad Government Hospital for post mortem. The Walayar police has filed a case and is investigating the driver of the container lorry which was parked in the side of the road.
Vehicular movement on the highway was disrupted for sometime owing to the accident
