Coimbatore: 'Craft Bazaar 2019' an initiative of Craft Council of Tamil Nadu was flagged off today here on Saturday. The six-day exhibition will be held beteeen June 29 to July 4 at Suguna Kalayana Mandapam on Avinashi Road.
Coimbatore: 'Craft Bazaar 2019' an initiative of Craft Council of Tamil Nadu was flagged off today here on Saturday. The six-day exhibition will be held beteeen June 29 to July 4 at Suguna Kalayana Mandapam on Avinashi Road.
The Craft Bazaar was inaugurated jointly on Saturday morning by President of the Council, Jaishree Ravi and Secretary, Sujini Balu in the presence of members of the Crafts Council.
"The bazaar promises various intriguing artistic products created by artisans from various parts of the country. We aim to create an opportunity for the artisans to sell their creations directly to the customers. For the past 15 years, the bazaar is being organised with a theme and this year the theme is based on ‘Andhra Pradesh’. Mangalagiri, Kalamkari, Phulkari etc are some of the varieties of clothing materials displayed at the bazaar", said Jaishree Ravi, President of the Council.
"Around 117 craftsmen have participated in this bazaar. From artistic paintings to simple table cloths, one can find very interesting and useful household items”, she added.
Products like handmade imitation jewelry, Banaras sarees, Kashmiri embroidery sarees, Paithani sarees, hand block print, Mugal print, Rajwada, traditional phad painting, Mithila painting, Mural works, Zari works, rugs, dhurries, apparels, bags and lot more are on display at the craft bazaar.
An artisan claimed that tailoring wastes were also used to make the work colorful wall hangings.
“Wow! The entire hall is so bright and colorful. I am here to buy paintings and bamboo products”, cheered Aarti, one of the customers.
The crowd can be well explained through the saying, “the early bird catches the worm”. The growing interests for hand made goods among people shows the promising future of the small artisans and unrecognized craftsmen.
