Sessions judge J.P. Jayanthi convicted Manoharan, a resident of Kandhampalayam, Avinashi, Tirupur District for abetment of suicide.
Manoharan who is said to be an alcoholic has frequently tortured his wife to fetch money from her mother's home. Unable to withstand the harassment by her husband Manoharan, Thulasimani (21) self-immolated herself and died on on July 18, 2012.
The Tirupur police arrested Manoharan and the case was ongoing at Mahila Court in Tirupur. On the final hearing held on Friday, Justice Jayanthi pronounced him guilty and awarded 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. He was later lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
