Coimbatore: Condemning the recent honour killing incident in Mettupalayam, over 100 members of 'Samooga Needhi Kootamaippu' comprising of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, Viduthulai Siruthaigal and 13 other associations protested in front of Mettupalayam bus stand on Friday.
Coimbatore: Condemning the recent honour killing incident in Mettupalayam, over 100 members of 'Samooga Needhi Kootamaippu' comprising of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam, Viduthulai Siruthaigal and 13 other associations protested in front of Mettupalayam bus stand on Friday.
The members raised slogans against honour killing and sought protection for couples marrying from different castes. They also demanded strict laws against the accused involved in honour killing under non-bailable sections.
The members of 'Samooga Needhi Kootamaippu' stressed that the government should compensate Rs. 50 lakhs to Varshini Priya's family who was assaulted by her lover's brother for caste related reasons.
Police security was beefed up at the protest site.
