Coimbatore: Brookefields Mall, one of the premium multi-brand retail malls on Dr. Krishnasamy Mudaliyar Road in Coimbatore has taken one step toward sustainability, by installing a state-of-the-art 345kWp rooftop solar power plant engineered by Sunshot Technologies, which is one of the leading rooftop solar EPC companies in the country.

In the absence of grid power from the Electricity Board, industries, businesses and malls widely use diesel generators to meet the power demand. The on-grid solar power plant optimizes the efficiency of diesel power generators as it works in sync with the DG sets, which helps in reducing diesel consumption, substantially. Sunshot Technologies with more than 175 solar installations and experience of working with over 65 top brands has installed its advanced and proven DG sync technology at the Brookfields Mall.

It is to be noted that the Brookefields Mall had already commissioned 250kWp rooftop power plant at the same premises in April 2016. The power plants are installed on both RCC and metal roofs of the mall. The Brookfields Mall now has a cumulative 595kWp capacity of the rooftop solar power plant. This will help the mall to generate around 8.5 lakh units of electricity annually and reduce carbon emission by 700 tons, every year. About 10 percent of the mall's daytime power requirement has been taken up by the solar plant.

At the launch, Ashwin Balasubramaniam, Director, Brookfields Mall said, "As a part of Brookfield's' philosophy, we lay a strong emphasis on renewable energy. We realized solar power is a great solution to meet our power needs. We are thankful to this association with Sunshot, who not only helped us set up the rooftop solar power plant in the most cost-efficient manner, but also the continuous online monitoring support provided by them gives us the added benefit of timely feedback and thus initiate accurate steps. With this project, we have completed our second phase of installation at our mall, taking a step further to achieve our sustainability goals," he added.

Addressing the media, Rahul Dasari, the CEO of Sunshot Technologies said that his company is proud to be a part of Brookefield's sustainability initiative, and rooftop solar power generation at commercial and industrial infrastructure is a commercially viable opportunity. "Such initiatives are a great way of embracing sustainability among the corporates and should be adopted by all industrial and commercial entities" he added. Sunshot has done the design, engineering, procurement and installation of both the solar power plants at Brookfields Mall Coimbatore. Sunshot is also taking care of the operation and maintenance of the plant.
