The Nilgiris: For the 200 families in Betatti, Thumbur and Selavai regions near Kotagiri in Nilgiris, one Primary Health Care Centre has been serving these regions for several years.
But, since the Centre is located in the vicinity of rocks and boulders, the District Collector had ordered for the construction of a new building.
Since the new area had no proper water and drainage facilities, residents in the area gathered to protest against the decision, led by their leader Chandran. They discussed with the Coonoor MLA, Shanthi Ramu about the difficulties that were bound to rise during temple festivals and funerals. Shanthi Ramu assured the protesters of finding an alternate site and even promised to buy them their own land with his own money if necessary, to construct the new Primary Health Care Center.
