The Public Works Department holds fishing rights for 12 water bodies in the city. Over 3000 fishermen pay an annual lease to the Municipality and Corporation to be allowed to fish from these water bodies. Since the PWD Department had not accepted the annual lease for this year, several fishermen are reportedly struggling to make ends meet.
In this regard, over 100 fishermen petitioned the District Collector, K Rajamani to immediately accept the lease and grant permission for them to fish.
