Delhi: After raising awareness in Parliament yesterday on Coimbatore being sidelined for international routes despite having all viability, the Nilgiris DMK MP, A Raja submitted a petition to the Aviation Minister in Delhi, for initiating direct flights from Coimbatore to international destinations like Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

He stated in his petition that Coimbatore Airport is widely used by locals, affluent people, businessmen and tourists, especially from the neighbouring state of Kerala. The petition stated that with such an increasing number of potential passengers, a lot of time and money is wasteddue to lack of direct flights from these destinations.

Citing the favourable response from the Commercial Viability Study by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Nilgiris MP in his petition requested the Aviation Minister to do the needful for the Coimbatore sector.
