Tirupur : Demanding capital punishment for rape convicts and those charged for crimes against women and children, over 300 college students in Tirupur staged a protest in front of the Tirupur Corporation.
Protesting against the heinous crime where a nine-month old baby girl was sexually abused and killed in Telangana, the students demanded capital punishment for rape convicts and those charged for various crimes against women and children. They also insisted that a separate Tribunal should be set up nationwide to deal with sexual crimes and to provide immediate justice in sexual harassment cases. They also demanded a ban on pornography.

The students also stated that in line with the Vishakha Guidelines, psychological and sexual harassment should also be included in the Indian Penal Code. The Vishakha Guidelines were a set of procedural guidelines for use in India in cases of sexual harassment. They were promulgated by the Indian Supreme Court in 1997 and were superseded in 2013 by the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
