Coimbatore: After a detailed hearing of both sides for almost two hours while investigating Dr. Asokan, the Dean of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for alleged mistreatment of another doctor, the Human Rights Commissioner, Justice Durai Jayachandran postponed further investigation to August 22.

Addressing the media, Dr Gajendran said, "The Dean, Dr. Asokan in addition to humiliating me, falsely reported that I have not been regular in discharging my duties as a doctor. His act of revenge has left me unemployed." He also alleged that many doctors had quit the hospital due to the torture meted out to them by the Dean."
In response to media queries on the complaint against him by Dr. Gajendran, the Dean of CMCH said that it is the management that decides whom to hire. He refused to comment any further on the investigation.
The Human Rights Commission investigating the Dean of CMCH based on a complaint received from a doctor that the Dean was mistreating him and caused him to lose his job. Dr. Gajendran, who was earlier appointed as the Chief Medical Officer in the Emergency Care unit of CMCH was transferred to the accident division by Dr. Asokan. However, Dr Gajendran requested the Dean to reassign him back to the Emergency Care unit since a junior staff had been assigned that position. But the Dean rejected this request and reportedly bad-mouthed Dr. Gajendran. Following the unpleasant exchange, Dr. Gajendran got permission and went on leave. However, Dr. Asokan is said to have lodged a complaint to the Indian Medical Council and transferred him, while appointing another physician in his place. Owing to this action, Dr. Gajendran is reportedly out of a job for the past eight months. Thereafter, Dr. Gajendran registered a complaint against Dr. Asokan with the Human Rights Commission requesting action against the Dean.
