Coimbatore: The Human Rights Commission is investigating the Dean of the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Asokan, based on a complaint received from a doctor that the Dean was seeking to avenge the doctor who was working at the same hospital.

Dr. Gajendran, who was earlier appointed as the Chief Medical Officer in the Emergency Care unit of CMCH was transferred to the accident division by Dr. Asokan. However, Dr Gajendran requested the Dean to reassign him back to the Emergency Care unit as a junior staff had been assigned that position. But the Dean rejected this request and reportedly bad-mouthed Dr. Gajendran. Following the unpleasant exchange, Dr. Gajendran got permission and went on leave. However, Dr. Asokan is said to have lodged a complaint to the Indian Medical Council and transferred him, while appointing another physician in his place. Owing to this action, Dr. Gajendran is reportedly out of a job for the past eight months.

Thereafter, Dr. Gajendran registered a complaint against Dr. Asokan with the Human Rights Commission requesting action against the Dean. The Human Rights Commission is presently investigating the Dean of CMCH, based on the complaint received from Dr. Gajendran.
