Coimbatore: The police have filed a case against a Facebook user for posting comments that could instigate religious riots and disturb the peace of the city.

The Police Department received information that a Facebook user from Coimbatore had been posting comments that could possibly trigger a riot between Muslims and Hindus. Mohammed Yusuf, a resident of Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Kuniamuthur posted on his Facebook wall on June 26, stating, "If they have chosen to kill Muslims in the name of "Jai Sriram," and if we are faced with such a situation, then let us fight and kill at least three people even if they are a hundred. May Allah grant us the privilege of embracing death by saying 'Kalimah' and we should be prepared for it. That should be our norm."

In his post, Yusuf also voiced his support for S A Basha, the founder of Al Ummah, a radical Islamist group and the mastermind behind the 1998 Coimbatore bombings. A total of 58 people were killed and over 200 injured in the 12 bomb attacks in 11 places, all within a 12 km radius.

The Kuniamuthur Police have filed a lawsuit against Mohammed Yusuf under sections 153A and 505 (2). In the preliminary inquiry conducted by the police, it was revealed that Yusuf had been in jail in connection to the Coimbatore bomb blast case. Following this, the police team led by the Assistant Commissioner, Cedric Immanuel raided Mohammed Yusuf's home and launched a man-hunt to arrest him.
