Coimbatore : Finally, both TNEB and CCMC have agreed upon a deal regarding the laying of EB cables for proposed model roads at Race Course and T.V. Swamy which is a part of the Smart City Project. The approval is expected to boost the works for the delayed “model road” project which was stalled for various reasons in the past.
Initially, the model road project was stalled after an outrage from the environmentalists for axing trees along the pavements in RS Puram, one of the proposed location for model road. Later, a new plan was drafted and the project re-commenced.

And this time, it was the TNEB department who turned villain to the project. With regard to laying EB cables for model roads, the TNEB and CCMC had some difference of opinion, due to which the former's approval delayed the project.
However, the hurdles faced by the model road project seems to end, as TNEB and CCMC have reached an amicable solution for the issue.
According to sources, the TNEB will send it's cost proposal to CCMC to lay EB cables which inturn will be forwarded for technical sanction by CCMC. Once the technical sanction gets through, a tender will be issued. And, the proposal is expected to go for a technical sanction in a weeks time.

A year ago, the estimated cost for model roads at Race Course and R.S Puram was fixed at Rs. 83 crore Rs. 44 crore respectively.
The Model road project promised provisions for widening the foot path, improving storm water drains among others.
Menawhile, sources from Corporation sources say that suggestions have been made by the officials to bring down the cost for Race Course road by more than 60% and T.V. Swamy Road by about 50%. This again would lead to considerable changes in the design.
Either ways, the model roads project is expected to start in the coming months.
