Amongst them is the King Cobra which is now being increasingly spotted in the Mettupalayam forest region. The King Cobra is usually found in cold and damp places but of late has been straying into farmlands frequently in the past few years, in search of food.
A King Cobra was found in an Areca nut plantation belonging to Mohan Kumar, in the Kallar region near Mettupalayam. Labourers working in the plantation found the King Cobra swallowing an Indian python and immediately informed forest officials who captured the snake after a half-an-hour struggle.
Forest Ranger Selvaraj along with other forest officials and Animal Rights activists who arrived at the spot said that the snake was found to be healthy and hence released it back into the dense forests, away from human settlements.
