Tirupur: A distraught mother, Mariammal from Kulathuputhur in Tirupur submitted a petition to the District Collector Palanisamy requesting immediate action to bring back her sons who were reportedly being slave-driven at their workplace in Thailand.

Mariammal who has three sons complained that her elder son Manithurai and younger son Manikandan were brainwashed by Ranjith, an agent from Avinashi who had promised them jobs at a textile company in Thailand. After fleecing Rs.2,70,000 from each of the brothers, Ranjith reportedly sent both of them to Thailand. The mother alleged that the brothers were made to work in a hotel with no work permits or visa, and that their employers ill-treated them and made them work like slaves with no proper salary. The brothers were working in two separate places.
Following continuous pressure from Mariammal who had to shell out Rs.58,000 again, the employer reportedly sent the younger son Manikandan, back to India. Since Manithurai's employer was refusing to send him back, Mariammal petitioned the Collector in Tirupur.

After the External Affairs Minister Jaishanker tweeted that immediate action would be taken to bring back Manithurai, Mariammal said that she finally saw a glimmer of hope in having her son restored back to her.
