Pandian, a native of Madurai has been working in a tailoring unit of a knit wear in Tirupur. While he was en route to his home in Kodikambam area in Tirupur, his vehicle reportedly collided with another vehicle from the opposite direction.
Pandian sustained grievous injuries to his head, neck and legs and was reported to be critical. Karthik, a social activist who was passing by noticed him bleeding profusely and alerted the 108 Ambulance. The helpline who attended the call had allegedly informed that it would take at least half an hour for the 108 Ambulance to reach the accident spot.
Understanding the critical situation, Karthik decided to shift Pandian in his two-wheeler to the Tirupur Government Hospital which was 3 kms away from the place. After they reached the hospital, Karthik informed the doctors at GH of the medical emergency and requested them to attend to the patient as priority.
The callousness and snail-paced response by the doctors infuriated Karthik who along with the public entered into a verbal argument with the doctors at the emergency department.
It is reported that only after a public outburst, the doctors attended to the injured patient who was battling for life.
The irate public opined that any further delay could have proved fatal. Both the public and the social activist who helped to save a life of an accident victim have urged doctors to act swiftly in such emergency cases, as even a small delay could cost a life.
