Coimbatore : Over 1000 students from various educational institutions took out a rally through the arterial roads of the city on Wednesday to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Coimbatore : Over 1000 students from various educational institutions took out a rally through the arterial roads of the city on Wednesday to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event was organised by the district administration, and Tamil Nadu Police Department and Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to sensitise the youngsters on the ill-effects of drug usage.
Globally, June 26 of every year is observed as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The rally was jointly flagged off by the District Collector, K. Rajamani and Commissioner of Police, Sumit Saran in the presence of West Zone IG, Periaiah. The rally commenced from South Tahsildhar office and ended in VOC grounds.
Students held placards displaying thought provoking messages on the ill-effects of drug intoxication and how it destructs an individual and the society at large.
"Life can take you higher than drugs", "Cocaine will make you go insane", "Drugs will lead you nowhere" were some of the strong messages on display.
District Collector, Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police Law & Order, Balaji Saravanan joined the rally along with the students.
As the rally ended, the students took an oath against drug usage which was followed by a prize distribution.
