Coimbatore: Grievance redressal seems to be top priority for the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), with the civic body leaving no stone unturned, of late, to address and take quick action on issues faced by the public.
CCMC's grievance redressal App which has not been fully functional according to the public is being revamped and expected to be ready by July. The new App will have more advanced features and all channels meant for grievance redressal will be integrated. According to a Corporation official, "Till date, grievances that came in through WhatsApp had to be tracked manually. Once a complainant registered a complaint through WhatsApp, he/she had to call the Whatsapp number to know the status from the official in-charge. But once the CCMC App is revamped, like all other channels, an ID will be created for WhatsApp complaints too and the public can track it themselves." "With the revamping of the App, all forms of channels registering grievances. be it Whatsapp, SMS, web portal, grievances from the CM cell and GOI portal will be brought under one platform and monitoring becomes easier for higher officials," he added.
It has to be noted that the CCMC Central App which had over 1800 pending grievances has been brought down to 400-odd grievances in the past month.
Another step taken by CCMC is conducting a grievance status monitoring meeting chaired by S Prasanna Ramasamy, the Deputy Commissioner (DC). This has been in effect for the last two weeks to check on the status of various complaints and grievances raised through multiple channels, with the concerned official having to update the DC on the status. Officials have thus been made more accountable and grievances are expected to be redressed at a fast pace.
CCMC is also planning to resume the 'Grievance Day Program' (GDP) from July onward, but with a change. "Every week, on the designated day, GDP will be conducted at different zones so that people living in the respective zones can get their complaints addressed at a much quicker pace. This will also reduce their burden of coming all the way to the CCMC office," stated the Deputy Commissioner.
