Coimbatore: In what is routinely becoming tragic cases of sexual assault and murder of minor girls in Coimbatore district, police have arrested the uncle of the two-year old girl who was found dead in a well at Vilankurichi yesterday.
The Peelamedu police arrested Raghunath, the cousin of the little girl's mother Kanchana in connection to the death of the little girl. After detailed investigation in the household of the girl who was found dead in the well, it came to light that the girl's uncle, a drunken Raghunath, had tried to exploit the child sexually. After the child began screaming, Raghunath reportedly covered her mouth and threw her in the well nearby.
The child's parents Kanagaraj and Kanchana who hail from Kariyakoundanpudur near Annur in Coimbatore were residing in a rented house on a farm which reportedly belongs to Kuppuraj. The family had gone to sleep inside the house on Sunday night, after hosting guests for dinner. The guests had reportedly slept on a cot outside the house. At about 4:30 am the following morning, Kanchana was shocked to find her child missing. Unable to find the child around the neighbourhood, the family looked into an unused well near Karuvellangadu about 500m away from their home. On rushing her to a private hospital, they were told by the doctors that the child was brought dead. Foul play was suspected and hence police had begun interrogating family and neighbours.
