Tirupur: Over 100 people from the Arunthathiyar residential area of Perichipalayam staged a protest in front of the Corporation office, protesting against using the land of a crematorium that had served three generations, into a fertilizer warehouse.

The Arunthathiyar residential area in the Corporation-owned land of Perichipalayam near Tirupur has housed three generations of over 100 families. These residents made use of a vacant land nearby to serve as a crematorium over the decades. But, plans are afoot by the Tirupur Corporation Administration to use that land for constructing a fertilizer warehouse. This has saddened residents in the area since they continue to pay homage to the dead by offering prayers at the land on their death anniversaries. Hence, the Arundhathiyars protested at the Corporation office in Tirupur and handed over a petition urging authorities to find another location for the fertilizer warehouse project.
