The petitioners claimed that the rivalry and in-fighting among the auto drivers in Ooty has affected the livelihood of the Elkhill area auto drivers.
Auto drivers from the Elkhill area, which is about 2 km atop a hill above the main town of Ooty and is home to popular resorts, ply their autos from town to Elkhill charging a fare of Rs. 90 or Rs. 100. It is reported that 10 days ago, auto drivers plying in the town of Ooty threatened 12 Elkhill auto drivers, demanding that they ought to stop taking rental rides from the Elkhill area to the town and vice versa. They further warned the Elkhill auto drivers to refrain from setting up a separate auto stand in the Elkhill area.
