After waiting for an hour, the officials dispersed, concluding the session. Fearing illegal activities of SIMI, nine petitions were submitted on the first two days of the Tribunal session.

SIMI was founded in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1977 which was later banned by the Central Government in the year 2001 as a terrorist organisation. In 2014, the ban on SIMI was extended for five years which ended in Jan 2019.

In this scenario, the Tribunal headed by the High Court Justice, Mukta Gupta along with the Crime Branch and Anti-terrorism police officials from Gujarat, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka discussed if the ban on SIMI needs to be extended or lifted.
