Coimbatore : District Collector, K Rajamani has requested the parents of visually impaired children in the district to enroll them at the government-run Blind School at Uliyampalayam, Thondamuthur here.
In a press release, the Collector noted that the Government Blind School is being run by the Department of Social Welfare of Differently Abled Persons which is a department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Many visually impaired children between class 1 to 5 are studying in the school in which system of learning through Braille scripts, a system of reading and writing by touch, consisting of arrangements of dots which make up letters of the alphabet, numbers, and punctuation marks, the release said.
The Collector also briefed on the facilities provided at the Blind School which includes free food, clothes and accommodation. The school also teaches music, computer, yoga and sports to the visually impaired students.
