Coimbatore: Following an uproar, Tahsildhar (North) has ordered to temporarily shut down the TASMAC operating on the Anaikati road which reportedly has been the reason for quite a few fatal deaths in the year. The action comes after a 48-year-old woman was killed on the spot in Anaikati Road on Monday, adjacent to the TASMAC.

The action comes after a 48-year-old woman was killed on the spot in Anaikati Road on Monday, adjacent to the TASMAC.
The man in the two-wheeler who rammed against the woman's two-wheeler was said to be in an inebriated state after consuming liquor from the alleged TASMAC which is run by relatives of an MLA.
The public from Jambukandi and the family of the victim blocked Anaikatti-Thadagam Road seeking immediate closure of the TASMAC outlet. The police arrived to the spot and pacified the protestors to disperse. However, the angered public did not allow the police to move the body nor did they disperse. The protest lasted for more than two hours, halting the traffic on Anaikatti road.
The deceased victim was identified as R. Shobhana from Thadagam. The accident is reported to have happened when the deceased victim was on her way after picking up her daughter, Shantala (16) from her school near Anaikatti. Shantala, the daughter is a class XI student of Vidya Vanam School near Anaikatti. The girl sustained minor injuries which was later treated at a private hospital.
Despite wearing helmet, Shobhana was thrown off her vehicle and died on the spot after sustaining head injuries probably because the helmet was not strapped. The irked public and her husband Ramesh who is a member of People's Movement, an organisation fighting for closure of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant blocked the road alleging the officials for not closing the TASMAC on the main road which has been causing repeated accidents involving tipplers who visit the TASMAC outlet.
