Coimbatore: A man was arrested here for cheating banks by procuring home loans using forged documents and later defaulting, the police said in a statement on Monday.
The accused was identified as Senthil Kumar alias Sathyaraj (37) resident of Ganapathy Narayanan Street on Sathy Road, Coimbatore.
A few months ago, Senthilkumar has approached the Bank Manager of Punjab National Bank in Saravanampatti here seeking home loan for Priya (35) whom he introduced as his sister. The duo submitted documents pertaining to an apartment in Saravanampatti and managed to get a loan of Rs. 28 lakhs.
As the monthly home loan dues were not paid, the Bank Manager, Vedhanarayanan (51) probed the documents and learnt that the documents were fake. He filed a complaint with the crime branch police.
Upon direct orders from City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan, team of police from the crime branch headed by Deputy Commissioner, Perumal arrested Senthil Kumar for forgery.
During interrogation, the Police found that earlier, he had faked documents and procured home loan for Rs. 14 lakhs from Corporation bank in Velandipalayam here.
The police booked two cases of forgery on him and produced him to the Court.
