The jurisdiction of West Zone covers 8 districts -- Coimbatore Rural, Tiruppur Rural, Salem Rural, The Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Namakkal.
"Compared to last year, crime rates have decreased in the West Zone, as vigil has been stepped up to maintain law and order", said a release issued by the police department. However, as per the report, cases on narcotics and sand smuggling is on the rise, compared to last year.

According to a press release detailing on the cases filed by the department against various crimes, "A total of 2283 cases have been filed under various sections, this year. Out of which, 197 cases against murder and murder attempts, 14 rape cases, 337 cases for crime against women, 175 POSCO cases have been."
"And, 100 rioting case which is 34 cases lesser than last year and 1872 hurt cases which is 120 cases lesser than last year has been filed. 72 Goonda cases and 12784 NBW were issued", the release added.
The release also noted that 23,668 CCTV cameras have been installed in the West Zone. Out of which,8702 CCTVs were installed in Erode. The cameras have helped solve many cases and nab criminals within a short period of time.
The recent announcement by the Superintendent of Police of each district on leave allotment for police officers on their birthdays and anniversaries along with wishes which has been warmly welcomed by the officers, the release said.
"Special teams spear-headed by SPs have booked 668 cases under Lottery Act, 15,464 under Prohibition Act, 445 cases under Gambling Act, 97 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS) act which is 32 cases more than last year and 267 sand cases, which is again 73 cases more than last year", noted the release issued by the police department.
