The Nilgiris: The Tamil Nadu Government had formed a team headed by the Executive Vice-Chairman of Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance & Export Promotion Bureau to inspect the water resources in the state.
As a part of the inspection, the team inspected the Ralliah and Emerald dams in Ooty and conducted a meeting with the corporation, municipality and Panchayat officials about the water resources at the Coonoor Taluk Office.
Neeraj Mittal, who heads the team, said that there is no way to increase the water levels in Ralliah Dam and recommendations were made to the Govt to save water by building more check dams. He also added that the Nilgiris is not affected by water scarcity and he recommended that damaged pipelines be changed for which ₹54 lakhs budget was allotted. He also assured that water resources in private lands will be protected. He instructed encroachment in reservoir areas to be immediately removed.
District Collector Innocent Divya, Revenue Officer Selvaraj, Taluk Officer (please check) Ranjith Singh and several others were present in the meeting.
