Addressing the media, the District Head of the Association, Pateeshwaran said, "There are about 1000 acres of land in Odayakulam where bananas, coconuts and sugarcanes were planted.
Usually, 1TMC water is released from April 15 to May 15 for the first harvest season. Since these plantations require two harvests in a year, and with no water released for the past six months, farmers have been able to harvest only once. This has reportedly cased a huge loss to farmers and about 10,000 labourers have been left without jobs this season. Hence, we met the District Collector today to request immediate release of water to this region," he added.
