Coimbatore Sindhi Forum's free denture camp 'gifts a smile' to 150 elderly in a record 24-hour feat

Coimbatore : The elderly and needy in the city had a reason to smile today. A denture camp 'Gift a Smile Free' for the elderly and needy in the city of Coimbatore was organized here by the Sindhi community of Coimbatore at the Gujarathi Samaj, on Sunday and was inaugurated by Sumit Saran, the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore city.

A denture camp 'Gift a Smile Free' for the elderly and needy in the city of Coimbatore was organized here by the Sindhi community of Coimbatore at the Gujarathi Samaj, on Sunday and was inaugurated by Sumit Saran, the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore city. 

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Coimbatore's Sindhi Forum under the leadership of its President, Sanjay Chabria in association with AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore and RVS Dental College and Hospital, Coimbatore hosted this free denture camp.



According to a press release, it usually takes five days to manufacture a set of dentures but for the first time, 150 dentures were measured and manufactured in one single day, at no cost to the patients. Around 500 patients from across Coimbatore District were medically screened, of which 150 of them were found eligible to receive complete denture sets. A 250-member team comprising of Doctors, Professors, Interns, Technicians and Medical students spent close to 18 continuous hours to achieve this feat. This community service initiative is also in pursuit of a record in the Limca Book of Records.



The welcome address at the event was delivered by Sanjay A Chabria, President of the Sindhi Forum, while Dr. Mohan Gundappa, Principal, RVS Dental College & Hospital, Dr. Krishna Nayak Dean & Principal, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences spoke at the event. A special address was also delivered by Rtn Kamlesh Raheja, Correspondent, Sindhi Vidhyalaya & Past District Governor, Rotary District.
