SIMI was founded in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1977 which was later banned by the Central Government in the year 2001 as a terrorist organisation. In 2014, the ban on SIMI was extended for five years which ended in Jan 2019.
In this scenario, the Tribunal headed by the High Court Justice, Mukta Gupta received six petitions on the first day of the Tribunal session being held in Coonoor. DIG Rajendra Prasad from Karnataka, Additional Commissioner of Police Mohammed Jajad Khan and Inspector Prasad Babu submitted three petitions on their behalf today. The three-day Tribunal session is to end today.
