And with rain around the corner, it is even more bizarre as to why they are performing poojas instead of creating measures to save the rain water for effective use.
Following the pattern, the Minister for Municipal Administration, S.P. Velumani organised a yaagam in the city's famous Perur Patteeshwarar temple today. Special poojas with 40 different cereals and millets were offered to Lord Varuna (the Hindu God for rain).
The yaagam at Perur temple was organised by the District rural wing of AIADMK. Similarly, MLAs PRG Arun Kumar and Amman K Arjunan performed a yagna at Kottai Easwaran Temple here.
Addressing the media, S.P Velumani said that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy CM O.Paneerselvam are governing the State in the path showed by late CM Jayalalithaa.
"Across the State, many progressive drinking water plans have been planned and executed", he added.
"Due to the lack of summer rains and delayed monsoons, the groundwater has taken a hit. Varuna Yaagam is conducted in all the districts of the State, so that rains pour down and benefit the public. After a survey report suggested, it has been decided that water from Jolarpettai can be brought to Chennai" said Minister S.P Velumani.
He also mentioned that he doesn't want to blame the opposition party for criticising the AIADMK regarding the present water issue.
