Coimbatore: The police arrested 17 members of the Revolutionary Youth Front and Revolutionary Students Front at Gandhipuram bus stand, for trying to burn the New Education Policy draft released by the Central Government.

The Ministry of Human Resource Department (HRD) has released a draft of the New Education Policy and requested the public to send in their opinions regarding the new policy by June 30. However, various organizations are skeptical about the policy and have raised objections.

To protest against the policy, cadres of the Revolutionary Youth Front and Revolutionary Students Front demonstrated at Gandhipuram bus stand this morning, in spite of not being given permission by the Police Department. The protesters who were trying to burn a xerox copy of the New Education Policy draft were arrested by the Police. The sudden agitation and commotion caused by the protest and ensuing arrest of the 17 youth caused a stir at the Gandhipuram bus stand.
