Coimbatore: The Indians Students Association's protest against the new educational draft is to be held on June 25.
The District Association Secretary Mariappan announced that the protest against the new educational draft will be done by burning a copy of it since the draft was against the Indian Constitution rights, democracy and the backward sections of society. "We demand that the Centre withdraws the draft with immediate effect. Or else, we will burn the copies of the new educational draft in front of all the institutions to create awareness among the people about the folly of such a decision by the Government," stated Mariappan. He requested people in the State to join them in their protest by burning at least one page of the draft.
The District Association Secretary later addressed the media saying, "The team led by Kasthuri Rangan took a year and a half to formulate the 484-page educational draft. The people have been asked to register their opinion within just one month and this is absolutely absurd. Moreover, the draft is published only in English and Hindi. We demand that they publish it in all languages.
This is their way of forcing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking States. We will not allow the Government to hand over something as important as education into the prying hands of the Corporate. We want the Government to debate on the educational draft, ask for everybody's opinion and only then take a decision," he added.
The District Association member Divya, Secretary Dinesh and the committee members were also present at the meet.
