Coimbatore : The Perur Main Road near Chettiveethi has become a huge inconvenience for the people because of the stench emanating from the nearby Selva Chinthamani lake where thousands of fishes lie dead.

The bunds of the lake are filled with dead fishes that have washed ashore because of the wind.

People who travel on the road adjacent to the lake find it difficult because of the stench.

According to activists, the mass death of fishes could have been caused by lack of oxygen in water.

“Usually people let large number of fishlings in the lake and once the fishes grow in size, they outnumber the carrying capacity of the lake resulting in such mass deaths,” said an activist.
