Coimbatore: The District Collector K Rajamani flagged off a procession at the Collectorate for Blood Donation Awareness in which college students participated. Revenue Officer Ramathurai Murugan, Deputy District Medical Officer Dr. Krishnan P, Sanitation Officer Banumathi, Blood Bank Distribution Officer Mangayarkarasi were present during the procession.

On the occasion of Blood Donors Day, several awareness programs are being conducted across the city highlighting the pros and process of blood donation. The awareness programs underline the importance of voluntary donation of blood which will be life-saving for financially poor patients, women in labour and accident victims.

Government blood banks are present in Coimbatore, Mettupalayam, Pollachi and in ESI Hospital. Apart from these, there are also 19 private blood banks and six blood preserve centres. 16701 units of blood were donated in 181 camps organised by the Government.
K Rajamani said, "www.tngovbloodbank.in contains all the information regarding blood banks, donation centres and volunteers can register themselves on the portal for information on donation camps and request for the right information in need of emergencies."
