Nilgiris residents are stranded at the Ooty bus stand in Coimbatore and are waiting in long queues to travel to their hometowns in the Nilgiris to cast their votes. With only Government buses being operated daily to Nilgiris from Coimbatore, passengers witnessed even less number of buses than usual being operated from the Ooty bus stand, here in the city.
"Only one bus is being operated for every one hour, due to which we are unable to go to our towns on time to cast our votes. With the time duration between Coimbatore and Ooty being three and a half hours, we are not sure if we will get buses to reach our constituencies on time," lamented irate passengers. "This inconvenience is mainly due to the negligence of the Government authorities in providing adequate bus services. If we approach private vehicles, they are overcharging us," they added.
