Badaga community elders exercise franchise in Nilgiris

The Nilgiris : Senior members of the Badaga community in the Nilgiris formed a large queue in the Nilgiris constituency to exercise their voting rights in the 17th parliamentary elections that are being held in the State, today.


The Nilgiris : Senior members of the Badaga community in the Nilgiris formed a large queue in the Nilgiris constituency to exercise their voting rights in the 17th parliamentary elections that are being held in the State, today. 



Until 11 am, around 15 percent polling had been registered in the Nilgiris constituency. Since 2009, the Nilgiris constituency has been reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes. In 2014, the constituency registered 74.60 percent polling, with the percentage expected to rise during this election. 

A Raja of DMK, Thiyagarajan of AIADMK, Rajendran of Makkal Needhi Maiam and M Ramasamy of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam are the major contestants in the fray at the Nilgiris constituency.
