Coimbatore : The police stopped a road roko which was to be staged by the Ukkadam GM Nagar residents.
Over a 1000 houses constitute GM Nagar in Ukkadam area. Sources say that the residents have been complaining for a long time to civic authorities about drainage water contaminating drinking water and yet no action has been initiated even after persistent complaints to the authorities. Hence, 50 residents of GM Nagar who were outraged by the indifference of civic authorities attempted to stage a road block in the Ukkadam area. Police personnel immediately arrived at the spot and pacified them.

The residents complained, "No action has been taken to rectify this problem even after constant complaints to the Corporation authorities. If this situation prevails, we will stage a road block on Ukkadam main road. Since our drinking water is contaminated by drainage water, we suffer from fever and diarrhoea constantly."
The police reassured the residents that steps will be taken immediately to stop water contamination. "We have informed the concerned authorities regarding this," said the police. Only after this, the crowd dispersed from the spot.
