Coimbatore : Urging to complete the Avinashi-Athikadavu project at the earliest, villagers carried out a procession ‘theerthakuda yathirai’ from Bhavani river to the temple in their respective villages.

Hundreds of people especially farmers from several villages in and around Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode carry out procession by fetching water from the river bhavani after offering prayers at Vana BathraKaliamman temple on Chithirai 1 of every year urging to implement the Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme without further delays. 

Recently, the State government sanctioned the long-pending scheme by allotting Rs 1,632 crore, following which preliminary works also have commenced. 

The people urged that the scheme has to be implemented as per the schedule, as lakhs of people especially farmers are dependent on this scheme for drinking water and irrigational purposes.
