Coimbatore : While the MSMEs allege that GST has decisively shifted the economic balance in favour of bigger businesses leaving them in lurch, the statement given by the Tamilnadu Pumpset Manufacturers Association (TAPMA) has left everyone perplexed.
In a press meet convened today, Kalyanasundaram, TAPMA President who is also the State Secretary for BJP’S business wing praised GST and slammed that baseless information is being spread by industries against GST.
“Our association has 120 members and we are in the Pumpset Manufacturing for the past 30 years. Few associations are spreading false information regarding GST, claiming that GST has brought damage to pump set manufacturing. However, to the contrary, GST has been very helpful in tax reduction and cost. Much time is saved for the industrialist with the absence of C-form and workload has been reduced because of E-waybill".

"We do not know on what basis the government is saying that 50,000 industries have been shut down. Even now, we are in shortage of labours which shows the prosperity of our industry. Some of the fringe associations are spreading false information about GST", he alleged.
He also revealed that the industries under TAPMA have realised an increase in profit from 10- 20 percent profit after GST.
Though the President of TAPMA added that he is sharing this information on his own and not to promote BJP, it is be noted that he is the State Secretary of the business wing of BJP.
The TAPMA then welcomed the promise given by BJP candidate C.P.Radhakrishnan on bringing down the GST from 18 to 5 percent.
When the media raised question on the statistics released by the State government on the number of MSMEs closed down due to GST, the TAPMA President did not give any clear answers.
