About 500 horses have arrived to take part in the 20 race sessions that culminate on June 14. And, 26 trainers, including five from outstation, and 50 jockeys will be part of this new season. For the first time, Former Woman Jockey Rupa will be training other jockeys.
The Nilgiris 1000 Guineas Grade III, the Nilgiris 2000 Guineas Grade II and the Nilgiris Derby Stakes Grade 1 are the main events of this season.
Secretary (racing) of Madras Race club P.Sivasubramaniam said, “We expect more crowd this horse racing season, as a good number of horses from outstations will. be part of this season. Hence, the event is expected to b more competitive".

According to the organisers, cash prizes will be awarded for every event. "The total stake money announced by the Madras Race Club is around Rs. 7 crore and a prize of Rs.1 crore will be awarded to the horse which wins ‘Nilgiris Gold Cup’. And, Rs.10 has been fixed as entry fee for the spectators” added Sivasubramaniam.
