The two new technologies, e pulse and scanner are used for the first time in the country. Ten locations out of 12 have been initially selected for using e pulse and scanner to test both feeder mains and distribution pipe lines across the corporation wards selected for implementing round-the-clock water supply.
Speaking on this, a senior corporation official stated, "As part of the ongoing project, Suez has been using two new technologies e pulse and scanner to assess the state of pipelines, only metallic, whether they can withstand for a few more years or they need to be replaced immediately. For e pulse there is no need for excavation, just contact with the pipeline using a house service connection will do. For scanner though, some amount of excavation is required. These two technologies used have given us live data which can determine the strength of the existing pipe lines."
"10 out of 12 locations were selected to do the tests. Two locations had to be dropped because of heavy traffic issues. Locations were selected based on the local data available with the company, based on existing pipe lines, soil testing etc. Thus far, e pulse has been used at Nethajipuram and Varadharajapuram, scanner at Town Hall, D B Road, K K Nagar, Sanganoor and the remaining four locations will be tested within a day. The tests are only done on metallic pipes since the company is planning to replace all the existing asbestos and PVC pipes. With the data from 10 locations, 90 percent of the project area will be covered," added the official.
