Coimbatore : The container TN 88 A 1060 which was detained yesterday belongs to Kalidas of Coimbatore. It is reported that 16 tonne tea powder was being transported from 'Shah Brothers Tea Company,' in Vellakinar, Coimbatore to the Cochin port, when two unknown people on a two-wheeler stopped the container and began arguing.

Following this, the public gathered at the spot and also joined in the argument alleging that cash was being transported in the container. When the container driver Prakash told them that the container was only transporting tea powder, the public refused to believe and tried to open the boxes. The flying squad and the police then reached the spot, detained the vehicle and brought it to the Collectorate.

When the shareholder of the tea company, Hemanth Shah arrived at the Collectorate this morning to claim the vehicle, he said, “We are involved in this business for the past three generations, for 80 years and I am into this business for the past 30 years.

Three containers were used to transport tea powder to the Cochin port from where it is exported to Spain. While two containers reached the destination, this third one which was detained did not reach the spot. I will lose 45 lakh rupees if this is not delivered at the Cochin harbor before 2 pm today,” lamented Hemanth Shah.
