The Nilgiris: Tea estate workers who were brought for the Chief Minister campaign in Ooty and Coonoor were paid up to Rs.200 to ensure there was a large turnout at the campaign rallies.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy campaigned for the AIADMK candidate for the Nilgiris Parliamentary constituency M Thiyagaran in the Nilgiris. Tea estate workers turned up in large numbers at the meetings reportedly by party members on the promise of being paid.

Even after the CM wound up the meetings and left the venue, party members struggled to distribute money to the tea estate workers due to the strict monitoring of the flying squad and media. However, it was noted that every person had been given Rs.150-Rs.200.
