Coimbatore : Protesting against the acts of vandalism of CPM and CPI party flags at two places in the city, the Communist party cadres staged an agitation condemning the 'uncivilized acts' of Hindu outfit cadres.
Ramamurthy, CPM District President, C Padmanabhan, State Executive Committee Member and CPM, M Kannan, a former legislator led the agitation. The agitators raised slogans against VHP, a Hindu outfit, whose cadres have been identified as indulging in the vandalism.

According to the police, the miscreants brought down the CPM flag pole at Varadarajapuram, removed the flag and then attempted to set fire to it. They also damaged the DYFI blood donation board which had been put up nearby, in the same locality. The CPM cadres who rushed to the spot, captured the two vandals who have been identified as belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. In a similar incident, miscreants uprooted the CPI flag pole at Kamarajar Salai in Singanallur, and set fire to the flag.

These acts of vandalism are seen as a reprisal for the entry of young women into the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple, a few days ago. The LDF Government in Kerala which has backed the entry of women into Sabarimala is currently facing the brunt of its decision.
